Port St. Lucie Snowbird Guide — Winter Rentals & Tips
Everything you need to know about spending winter in Port St. Lucie, Florida
Port St. Lucie has been one of Florida's best-kept snowbird secrets for years. While Naples, Sarasota, and the Space Coast get the headlines, thousands of smart seasonal visitors have quietly been returning to PSL every winter — drawn by the value, the warmth, the golf, the beaches, and a pace of life that feels like Florida used to before it got complicated.
If you're considering your first winter on the Treasure Coast, or looking to lock in the right base for your stay, this guide covers everything you need to know.
Why Port St. Lucie?
PSL sits at the sweet spot of the Treasure Coast — far enough from Miami and Fort Lauderdale to feel genuinely relaxed, but with everything you need within easy reach. It's one of Florida's fastest-growing cities, which means infrastructure has kept pace — good hospitals, good roads, good supermarkets, good restaurants. And unlike the Gulf Coast, the east-facing beaches mean spectacular sunrises rather than sunsets, which suits the early-rising snowbird demographic very well.
The weather: November through March averages 70–80°F during the day, dropping to the mid-50s at night — warm enough for pools, golf, and beach days, cool enough to sleep comfortably. It rarely rains in winter. Humidity is low. It's genuinely as good as it sounds.
The value: Compared to Naples, Palm Beach, or Miami, PSL remains significantly more affordable. A furnished 3-bedroom pool home for a winter stay costs considerably less than equivalent properties on Florida's west coast.
When to Come
The traditional snowbird season runs November through April, with January, February and March being the busiest months. If you can be flexible, November and April offer the best combination of good weather and lower prices. December is lovely but books fast. January through March are peak season — book as early as possible, ideally 6-9 months ahead.
Monthly Rental Costs in PSL
For a furnished 3-bedroom pool home on a monthly basis, expect to pay in the region of $6000–$12,500 per month depending on the property, location, and time of year. January–March commands the highest rates. November and April are more affordable. All our properties are available for monthly stays — Click Here to check our winter rates as these are often better than the nightly rate equivalent.
Compared to a hotel or resort stay, a furnished home gives you a full kitchen (significant saving on meals), a private pool, and space for the whole family or group — making it excellent value for stays of a month or more.
What to Do All Winter
Golf — PSL is one of Florida's great golf destinations. PGA Village offers three championship courses, and The Saints, Savanna Club, and St. Lucie Trail Golf Club offer excellent everyday options. Peak season tee times at PGA Village should be booked in advance.
Beaches — Jensen Beach Park is 15-20 minutes from most of our properties — a beautiful, uncrowded Atlantic beach with free parking, showers, a café, and volleyball courts. Stuart Beach and Bathtub Beach are equally lovely and rarely crowded in winter.
Pickleball & Tennis — PSL has embraced pickleball enthusiastically. Courts are everywhere, leagues run all winter, and it's one of the easiest ways to meet people quickly.
Mets Spring Training — From late February, the New York Mets train at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie. Tickets are affordable, the atmosphere is relaxed, and it's a genuine highlight of the PSL winter calendar.
Green Market — The PSL Green Market runs every Saturday morning at MIDFLORIDA Event Center — free entry, local food, live music, and a genuinely pleasant way to spend a Saturday.
River Nights — Free live music on the second Thursday of every month, October through April, on the waterfront. A lovely local event.
Day trips — Orlando and Disney World are 90 minutes. Miami is 2 hours. The Florida Keys are 3 hours. Kennedy Space Center is an hour north. PSL makes an excellent base for exploring the state.
Healthcare
PSL has strong healthcare provision — Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital and HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital are both well-regarded facilities. The area has a large retiree population which means healthcare services are well developed and numerous specialists are available locally.
Getting Around
A car is essential. PSL is a suburban city and distances between places are typically 5-20 minutes by car. Car rental is available locally (Enterprise, Hertz, and National are all on US1). If you're flying in, Palm Beach International (PBI) is the closest major airport at around 45 minutes south, with Orlando International (MCO) around 90 minutes north.
