Beaches Near Port St. Lucie — Vero Beach to Jupiter
Over 60 miles of Atlantic coastline — uncrowded, beautiful, and all within easy reach
Port St. Lucie sits at the heart of one of Florida's most underrated stretches of coastline. From Vero Beach in the north to Jupiter in the south, over 60 miles of Atlantic beach are within an hour's drive — most of it far less crowded than anywhere in South Florida, and much of it completely free to enter.
NORTH — Vero Beach & Sebastian (40–50 minutes)
Sebastian Inlet State Park — Best for Surfing & Fishing
Sebastian Inlet State Park offers three miles of Atlantic Ocean beaches spanning two barrier islands, and is one of the most recognised surf spots on the Atlantic coast. The inlet's two signature breaks, First Peak and Monster Hole, produce some of the most consistent and powerful waves in the state. It's also a legendary fishing spot — snook, redfish, bluefish, and Spanish mackerel are all caught from the jetties. The McLarty Treasure Museum on the park grounds adds a fascinating historical element — this stretch of coast is famous for shipwrecked Spanish treasure. Entry around $8 per vehicle.
Vero Beach — Humiston, Jaycee & South Beach
Vero Beach is known as the gateway to the tropics — uncrowded beaches where you may find yourself sharing your space only with sea turtle hatchlings. The city's guarded beaches include South Beach, Humiston Beach, and Jaycee Beach Park, with Indian River County adding Golden Sands, Wabasso, and Round Island Oceanside Park. Jaycee Beach has the longest boardwalk in Vero Beach, with covered pavilions, a playground, and two restaurants nearby. Vero has an upscale, unhurried feel — excellent for a day trip if you want something calmer and less visited than the Martin County beaches.
CENTRAL — Fort Pierce & Hutchinson Island (20–30 minutes)
Fort Pierce Inlet State Park
Fort Pierce Inlet State Park is located on North Hutchinson Island, easily accessible from I-95 or US-1, with plenty of parking, picnic areas, and public restrooms. The north jetty is one of Central Florida's best surf spots, and the park is a wildlife sanctuary with a genuine natural feel. Autumn's mullet run brings great surf fishing. Entry fee applies.
Pepper Park Beach — Best for Snorkelling
A quieter, more natural stretch of North Hutchinson Island with restrooms and parking. Pepper Park is best known for the 1700s Spanish wreck Urca de Lima, which lies sunken in 15 feet of water just 200 yards offshore — put on a mask and fins and you can swim out to it. One of the most accessible snorkelling sites on the Treasure Coast and completely free.
CLOSEST — Jensen Beach, Hutchinson Island (13–20 minutes)
Jensen Beach Park — Our Favourite
Jensen Beach Park is a vibrant, family-friendly beach with volleyball courts, picnic tables, and grills. Officially called Jensen Sea Turtle Beach, the Sand Dune Café is open 7 days a week, and restrooms, showers, and picnic pavilions make this a complete all-ages day out. It's one of the most significant sea turtle nesting sites in the country — between April and August, hundreds of turtles come ashore at night. Entry around $6 per vehicle.
Waveland Beach
Waveland Beach is a beloved family spot with lifeguards, public restrooms, and ample amenities. The wide stretch of golden sand is perfect for building sandcastles, sunbathing, or tossing a frisbee. Slightly quieter than Jensen Beach Park — the better choice if you want more space.
Walton Rocks Beach — Best for Dogs
Walton Rocks Beach is a dedicated off-leash dog beach on South Hutchinson Island — the best option in the area for guests bringing dogs. No lifeguards, but a genuinely lovely stretch of sand. Several of our properties are pet-friendly so this one is popular with our guests.
Bathtub Beach — Best for Families & Snorkelling
A natural tidal lagoon creates calm, shallow water behind a sandbar — perfect for snorkelling, paddling, and younger children. The St. Lucie Inlet is just over a mile south, making this area a hotspot for marine life. Worth checking conditions before visiting as the sandbar shifts seasonally.
SOUTH — Stuart, Hobe Sound & Jupiter (20–35 minutes)
Stuart Beach
Stuart Beach is one of the finest on Hutchinson Island, with covered picnic areas, restrooms, and beach volleyball courts, close to the Elliot Museum and Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center. Stuart's charming historic downtown — the self-described Sailfish Capital of the World — is worth combining with a beach day.
Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge — Best for Seclusion
Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge is a pristine 967-acre park featuring 3.5 miles of beach on Jupiter Island and one of the state's most important sea turtle nesting beaches. Far less visited than the Martin County beaches — go here when you want genuine seclusion and natural Florida at its most beautiful.
Jupiter Beach Park & DuBois Park
Located at the confluence of the Loxahatchee River, the Intracoastal Waterway, and the Atlantic Ocean, Jupiter is one of the top spots in the Palm Beaches for water sports — swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, surfing, and snorkelling. Jupiter Beach Park has over 1,700 feet of guarded beach with picnic areas, grills, restrooms, showers, and a sand volleyball court. DuBois Park is a unique mosaic of shallow coves and lagoons — different from any other beach in the area and worth the trip.
Blowing Rocks Preserve
One of the most dramatic natural features on Florida's east coast. A tall limestone terrace stretches more than a mile along Jupiter Island — the longest stretch of rocky shoreline in Florida. At high tide, waves force through holes in the rock and shoot jets of water into the air. Completely unlike anywhere else on the Treasure Coast.
Practical Tips
Most beaches are open from sunrise to sunset. Entry fees apply at state parks and most Martin County beaches (around $6 per vehicle). Outside peak season (December–March) parking is rarely an issue.
Dogs are welcome on leashes at several unguarded beaches. Walton Rocks Beach is the dedicated off-leash option closest to PSL. Jupiter also has dog-friendly beach access on non-guarded sections.
This entire stretch of coast lies along the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge — one of the most significant sea turtle nesting habitats in the western hemisphere. Between April and August, evening turtle walks are a genuinely memorable experience.
