Florida’s summer thunderstorms are famously predictable — often a clear morning followed by an hour or so of rain in the mid-afternoon. Rather than fighting it, most locals simply plan around it, and a few reliable indoor options make the difference.

Good rainy-day options

  • Treasure Coast Children’s Museum at Indian RiverSide Park — hands-on exhibits well suited to younger kids
  • A movie at a local theater — an easy, low-stress option for older kids and teens
  • Board games and a movie night at the house — most of our properties have generously sized living areas and TVs built for exactly this
  • Local shopping centers — a practical option if the whole afternoon is a washout

Our general advice

Rather than planning an entire day indoors, we usually suggest scheduling outdoor activities for the morning and keeping afternoons flexible during summer visits. That way, an afternoon shower is a minor inconvenience rather than a wasted day — and often it clears up in time for an evening pool session anyway.
