Most visitors to the Treasure Coast head straight for the ocean, which means Savannas Preserve State Park stays wonderfully uncrowded โ€” even though it’s only minutes from several of our properties. This 5,000-acre stretch of freshwater marsh runs for ten miles between Fort Pierce and Jensen Beach, and it’s one of the last of its kind on Florida’s east coast.

Why it’s worth the detour

The water here is flat and sheltered, which makes it ideal for beginners โ€” no waves, no boat traffic, just marsh grass, cypress, and a genuinely good chance of spotting wading birds, turtles, and the occasional alligator at a respectful distance. Canoe and kayak rentals are available at the park, or bring your own if you have one.

  • Over 8 miles of multi-use trails for hiking and biking, if you’d rather stay dry
  • An education center off Walton Road with exhibits on the marsh ecosystem
  • Entrance fee applies; check current hours before visiting

It’s an easy add-on to a beach day, or a lovely quiet morning on its own if you’re staying with us for a week or more and want a change of pace from the pool. Bring insect repellent โ€” the marsh is beautiful, but it’s still Florida.
